Ukana recently built a 2 MW load bank for a stationary peak shaving application at Theo Pouw. This load bank manages any excess energy that cannot be fed back into the grid.
The client requested control via their own Modbus protocol, which has been successfully implemented. Since the full 2 MW is not always required, the load bank has been configured with the necessary load steps for flexible operation.
The standardized Load Master series, custom-designed for the client
Ukana offers a standard product portfolio that can be fully customised to meet client-specific requirements. For example, this load bank was designed for a stationary installation, featuring a permanent floor cable entry instead of a side entry, and the client wanted to be able to control the load bank themselves using a Modbus protocol.
2MW load bank – resistive load 400V 50Hz
For this application, a 2 MW fully resistive load bank operating at 400 V, 50 Hz was requested. Ukana can manufacture load banks from 1 MVA up to 8 MVA in the Load Master series. Where desired, these can optionally be linked together.
The MVA range can be built as an RLC load bank, combining resistive load (ohms/kW), inductive load, and capacitive load. It is also possible to choose resistive only, or a combination of resistive and inductive load.
